When it comes down to it I want my golf bag to make sense. I want my clubs, zippers, phone and beer to be exactly where i expect them to be when i reach down to my cart. Any time spent fumbling around, checking pockets is taking away from my focus on the course. The Ping Pioneer excels at well thought out design and ease of use. The club organization is on point with the 15-way top, flanked by sturdy handles and a sloping design. The rubberized putter well allows for those oversize grips that a lot of us are fond of. Fans of the laser rangefinders will be pleased to see a magnetic quick access pocket that is perfect for our laser-guided friends. Fans of drinking any liquid will also enjoy the large insulated cooler pocket that works flawlessly at keeping things cold.
Ping, one of the most trusted brands in golf, does not let down with the Pioneer for 2017. Weighing in at only 7 pounds of well-built, water-resistant craftsmanship, this bag is sure to last many years. These types of purchases are not cheap, and luckily Ping has a reputation for great brand support. We can be confident that any issues that arise will be met with competence and customer service. If you took a look in the back hatch of my car today, you’d see the Ping Pioneer riding high. It easily takes my slot for the best golf bag of 2017.
- 14-way divider top
- Water bottle pouch (also fits beer)
- Umbrella sleeve & matching rain hood
- Velour-lined valuables storage
- 7 pockets including ball & tee pockets
All of the reasons I liked the Ping bag hold true with the Taylormade 5.0 bag of 2017. It doesn’t quite knock it out of the park in terms of build quality and design, but it is much less money. There is ample storage for any of the things I had to store out on the course. There is a little bit of lacking in straps and loops and places to hang ball covers and the like, but that was my only real gripe. The integrated grab handle around the clubs worked just about as well as on the Ping, and I never was lacking a place to keep anything.
The Taylormade 5.0 weighs in at a featherweight 4.9 lbs for any of you that are concerned. If you are looking for a bag to simplify your game and reduce stress on the course at a lower price point, the 5.0 is your best bet. While this bag is light enough to carry, make sure you plan to be using a riding golf cart most of the time if you make this purchase. Otherwise there are probably other bags that would be more optimal for your play style.
Best Golf Stand Bag – Callaway Chev 2017
- Soft mesh hip pad is comfortable and breathes
- 6 Pockets, including the coveted velour lined valuables pocket
- 7-way top with integrated handle and full-length dividers.
Those of us that choose to walk the course also deserve a quality golf bag that is packed with features. I test-drove the 2017 Chev Stand bag out in the heat of a south Texas summer and was not disappointed. The bag is comfortable due to an ergonomically placed hip pad made of ventilated material. It is light-weight enough to walk the course with, and the stands deploy conveniently. The well-designed club compartments have full-length dividers for smoother entry and exit of your clubs.
Its important to consider every facet of any purchase you make. For those of you that need a lightweight golf bag that is still robust enough to meet all your needs, I genuinely believe the 2017 Callaway Chev is it. There is some compromise in the amount of storage space available when compared to a cart bag. But, if you need a ton of storage space it may be smarter going with a cart bag. Again, it all comes down to your needs and how you plan on travelling the course. One consideration if you are adventurous enough to play in the rain, the Chev is not totally water-resistant so keep that in mind. At the end of the day, if you are serious about a full-featured lightweight golf bag, this may be the best golf bag for you.
- 4 Point shoulder strap for easy walking
- 6-way top
- 5 Pockets
- Fleece lined valuables pocket
- Easy access water bottle holder
The Tyro Golf stand bag excels with its lightweight construction and affordability. If you want a quality bag that will last at a low price this is it. You may not see all of the features in the more expensive and equipped bags, but this will get the job done for walking the course in style. The 6-way top is not quite as robust as others but normally when walking the course it is all you need. The Tyro’s valuables pocket is fleece lined, offering protection for your valuables. Storage space is not unlimited with the Tyro and you will have to pack light. Not a bad deal when you plan on walking the course anyways.
The Ogio Tyro has no surprises for 2017. Coming in at close to $100, it is the best golf stand bag if you’re on a budget. You sacrifice storage and extra perks like magnetic quick access pockets, but at this price its hard to care.
- Dense foam padding protects your clubs
- Foldable for easy storage
- Retractable, pivoting, durable wheels for easy transit
- Full-length zippers allow easy load/unload
- Leg mechanism provides effortless support
Don’t let the relatively unknown name of Sun Mountain fool you. The Clubglider Meridian is hands down the best travel bag on the market. I do a lot of travelling for work and pleasure and whenever I get the chance to bring my clubs, I reach for this golf travel bag. It has dense foam padding to prevent any damage during your journey. The wear points of the bag are vinyl-reinforced which increases the longevity of your travel bag. Rugged wheels that fold when not in use make transit through facilities like airports very easy. One of my favorite points is how fold-able the whole thing is when not in use. The zippers also travel the whole length of the bag, which allows the loading and unloading process to be that much easier.
The Clubglider Meridian is a little bit pricey. In this case you do indeed get what you pay for. The Meridian was built to last from quality material. For me, this longevity makes it worth the hefty price tag. A cheaper bag won’t work as well and wont last as long, causing me to spend more in the long run. One potential downside is the main zipper is not designed for a lock. If you are concerned with the security of your clubs while in transit, keep this in mind. On the whole, Sun Mountain delivers an excellent product in the Clubglider Meridian, and easily takes the spot for the best golf travel bag.

The forward-facing pockets are accessible when on your push cart for ease of use. The pockets themselves are more then enough, as there are 9 of them. This includes an insulated cooler pocket and water resistant valuables pockets. The cart strap passes behind the rangefinder pocket and out of the way of anything you need to access on your cart. A very convenient design.
